There’s a lingering sense of nostalgia that traditional courtyard homes exude; like a vintage time capsule without a sell-by date. “we rooted the architecture in time-honored Indian practices, and chose to make the courtyard the heart of the home”.
External front facing terraces and wooden louvered screen walls break the scale of the three storeyed building and contribute to the massing pattern.
The interiors of the house are tied with the exterior, in a seamless manner. Clean, contemporary lines aide an architectural feel to the spaces, while the neutral tones of white, warm timber and cool concrete soften the linear experiences. Meticulous integration of greens provides accents of softness. Efficiently zoned skylight brings in gushes of natural light throughout the interior of the house.
The concept of openness is applied rather diligently – from the living room at the ground floor level marrying into the courtyard and further opening up to the dining room which is connected to an outdoor deck.
The furniture and accessories are minimal to avoid distraction from the bold sculpture form in Jaisalmer floor and concrete juxtaposed against the natural wooden tones throughout the house.
